Prices of DNA sequencing have started dropping at a jaw-dropping rate on January 2008 and have continued to drop ever since. The reason for the decline in the dropping of the costs is that DNA sequencers switched to second generation techniques that are low-cost while doing the same job that the first generation technique (two-dimensional chromatography) does.
Why is it important? DNA sequencing is the researchers key to unlocking the secrets to human life: finding the set of bases that will dictate a specific trait or dictate a particularly dangerous genetic defect.
