AESTHETIC AND ECO-FRIENDLY BRIDGES: STRUCTURES OF THE FUTURE?

The pictures posted below are from the concept design of Italian designers Francesco Colarossi, Giovanna Saracino, and Luisa Saracino. These pictures are featured in http://gizmodo.com/#!5750823/a-bridge-this-fine++and-eco+friendly++deserves-to-be-made.

This Solar Wind concept design is indeed a jaw-dropping engineering spectacle to behold! Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, sophisticated, classy-looking, and futuristic, it also has wind turbines to facilitate energy production. Unfortunately, the design came only second in a competition to dream up a bridge spanning the Italian areas of Bagnara and Scilla.

The reason? Skeptics are questioning the feasibility of the project’s design; they say that a lot of wind resistance will be experienced by this kind of bridge and that constructing it would require a tremendous amount of money. In my opinion, it will ultimately all boil down to one deciding  factor: Do the pros heavily outweigh the cons?

If yes is the answer to the mentioned inquiry, then the project will go through. The solar highway would stretch 12.4 miles, with the bridge’s wind turbines generating enough electricity to power 15,000 houses a year. Naturally, the solar panels would also generate electricity, and the greenhouses would allow passing drivers to buy roadside fruit and vegetables from indie growers whose stalls are situated safely at the sides.

BLOG ENTRY 10: HOW TO GET RICH— THROUGH THE EYES OF A BILLIONAIRE

The “how to get rich” guide has been one of the most redundant articles when financial well-being is concerned; I’m quite sure that everyone has come across the different advices and strategies being offered by seemingly reliable resource persons. More often than not though, these tips tend to have disappointing results. Why? Because these money-related assistances are commonly just good in theory, and not true-and-tested in the real world.

I recently read an article by Mark Cuban about the topic I just mentioned and I was amazed at how simple his advice were. For him, there were just two important tips needed to be remembered: what NOT to do, and what SHOULD be done.

Fisrt off, what not to do. Don’t look for shortcuts.

With all of the volatility in the stock and financial markets these days, there will definitely be scams popping up left and right. These scammers will target someone with less money, taking advantage of his/her desperation. The best thing to do, according to Mr. Cuban, is not to be enticed by the empty promises offered. The thing to always remember is that if the person selling the deal was so smart, they would be rich beyond rich. As said, there are no shortcuts.

Second, the thing that should be done.

Save money. Yes, Cuban’s tip is this simple! Save as much money as you possibly can. Every penny you can. Instead of sipping coffee at Starbucks, drink water. Instead of going to McDonalds, eat Mac and Cheese. Cut up all your credit cards. If you use a credit card, you dont want to be rich. The first step to getting rich is discipline. That’s how you become financially stable.

Truly an amazingly loaded article from a multi-billionaire. You can read his other commentaries here, if you are interested: http://blogmaverick.com

The pictures above are taken from the exhibit I attended last Sunday, 27th of February. Dubbed as  “Innovations for Business Expo” , the event was the brainchild of the Technology Resource Center (TRC) and the Department of Science and Technology. The place was crowded with booths of various innovative technologies; there were also seminars about how to successfully start or expand a business venture.

Blog Entry 3:

Energy efficient technologies are the trend these days. Being eco-friendly is the primary focus of all the new innovations being released in the market, and sometimes the cost of the product is compromised because of this.

Luckily, for those who plan to build their dream houses or those who just are opting to renovate homes, there’s a new product that may pique your interest.

The product is a roof and attic insulation system. It’s packed to promote the reduction of electric consumption in a household by a significant amount. Not only is it able to reduce electric bills, it is also a very high-tech system which can regulate the temperature of the household.
